CAMPUS MASTER PLAN
PHASE 1-GroundbreakingOn August 21, 2017, we began a new chapter in the story of PMA. This chapter began on a memorable day marked with an eclipse of the sun, and on the feast of St. Pius X, whose motto was to “restore all things in Christ!”
We gathered to break ground on the 1st phase of our campus master plan- to restore our campus in Christ, so that the students, staff, alumni and all members of our community may receive and carry forth the light of Christ, through faith and knowledge, in a world that seems to be eclipsed by the failures of humanity in recognizing its significance as children of a loving and merciful God. The radiating light of Christ that shines on PMA, has been made possible by people who believe in casting out the darkness and hopelessness of our world by investing in the lives of our students and community. Thanks to the selfless generosity of the John H. and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation and the J.F. Shea Company, we have the opportunity to witness the transformation of a campus that is growing to better serve teenagers to who will manifest the values of the PRIDE, VIRTUE, and PURPOSE. Phase one includes the addition of a softball field with restrooms and bleacher seating; enhancements to the landscaping in front of the school, including a new LED electronic marquee sign; the renovation of a campus residence that will be used by Loyola Marymount University’s, Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE) Corps program; modernization of selected classrooms, staff, and student restrooms; and the construction of a brand new state of the art football/soccer stadium. The new stadium will include a 9 lane rubberized track, turf athletic football/soccer field, home and visitor bleacher seating on each side, the creation of a new ticket booth, student spirit store, visitors restrooms, and the renewal of existing field restrooms, snack bar facilities, and parking. As we mark the beginning of construction we affirm the ideals for which our work will stand in advancing the cause of Catholic Education in the City of Downey and surrounding communities. This work will serve the needs of countless students who will pursue their high school journey on these sacred grounds, providing them with a beautiful and innovative learning environment that will allow them to excel in all aspects of the spiritual, academic, and physical realm. These projects will enhance our students, benefit our community, and represent the values of St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy. We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. John and Cynthia Smet and the J. F. Shea Company for making this vision become a reality. We are grateful for the generous support of our community of benefactors, board members, parents, students, alumni and friend for helping us to manifest the values of Catholic education for future generations. |
